Catfish the Cabaret is a comedy musical and satirical parody of the reality media phenomenon, Catfish (documentary, the TV show, podcast) produced by Rachel Dastgir and co-written by Lucas Closs and Izzy Salt. In a setting in which spirits enter our world the same way we can use and misuse the digital, this is a play that comedically explores exploitative and market-driven entertainment, love in the digital age and human psychology and complexity. The show is filled with artistic spectacle from extravagant costumes designed by Rachel Fleminger Hudson to contemporary cabaret music, as even audience members are subject to being unveiled as catfish and exposed to projected live streams of online strangers. It will be performed in Edinburgh the first two weeks of August 2023.
